Since its founding in 1670, Weingut Ansgar Clüsserath in Tritteheim on the Mosel has been owned and operated by the family.
Today, Eva Clüsserath-Wittmann is following in the footsteps of her father Ansgar; the two of them manage the estate together. After completing her oenological studies in Geisenheim in 2001, she worked simultaneously at the estate and for a regional branch of Germany’s VDP (Prädikat Wine Estates) before deciding to focus her energies upon the estate in Trittenheim. Like her husband, Phillip Wittmann of the eponymous estate in Westhofen/ Rheinhessen, she is a member of Germany’s new generation of growers, who are committed to traditional and ecologically sound viticultural practices as well as developing forward-thinking techniques. Both in the vineyard and the cellar she brings forth the special characteristics of the Mosel’s unique geology. Her personal style articulates itself in expressing the typicity of the estate’s slate soils and steep vineyard sites, creating wines of great finesse and elegance.
